UP AIT Conducts Rapid Tourism Assessment and Stakeholder Consultation in Sariaya, Quezon
UP AIT conducted an extension visit to Sariaya, Quezon, for a stakeholder consultation for the Extension Grant project, ‘Pagyabong: Technical Assistance to Sariaya, Quezon in the Crafting of Their Heritage Tourism Plan,’ from April 29 to 30, 2026.
On April 29, 2026, the UP AIT Team, composed of Prof. Reil Cruz, Prof. Nerissa D. Del Fierro-Juan, Prof. Ivan Anthony Henares, URA Maria Rose Jalin-Manalo (EG recipient), and Ms. Pia Katrina Bernabe (Technical Assistant), carried out a Tourism Rapid Assessment in the heritage district along Rizal Street and the coastal areas of Sariaya. They were joined by Herencia Sariaya members Ms. Victoria De Villa and Ms. Maria Kristina Decal.
On April 30, 2026, the team paid a courtesy call to the office of Mayor Marivic Gayeta, where they were welcomed by Sariaya Administrator Randy Tronila and Chief Tourism Operations Officer Dr. Ruben De Gracia, together with Herencia Sariaya President Raul Limbo.
During the meeting, it was mentioned that UP AIT will assist in installing QR codes on seven (7) heritage houses to help preserve, protect, and promote the ancestral homes and the stories of the families who lived there. These heritage houses will serve as “living treasures” for students of architecture and history, as well as for future generations’ appreciation of the past. The narratives will also support a walking tour for visitors wishing to explore the “Heritage District” along Rizal Street. Finally, Herencia Sariaya and the LGU will be guided in developing the town’s Heritage Tourism Plan (HTP).
