GETTING AROUND

AIT is located on the north side of Commonwealth Avenue towards the direction of Quezon Memorial Circle. It is located beside the SEAMEO Innotech and UP Ayala TechnoHub in the west, Philippine Social Science Center in the east, and Central Avenue in the north. The main entrance and access of AIT is on Commonwealth Avenue.

WALK

From the UP main campus, walk towards the College of Human Kinetics (CHK) in the walking path leading to Commonwealth Avenue. Cross through the elevated footbridge towards AIT.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT

Westbound: You can take a bus, UV Express, or Jeep traveling towards Quezon City Memorial Circle. Look for those bound to: Quiapo, Anonas, Cubao-Kamuning-Arayat, Philcoa, etc.

Eastbound: You can take a bus, UV Express, or Jeep bound to Fairview, Grotto, Ever Gotesco-Commonwealth

PRIVATE VEHICLE

Westbound: Drive along Commonwealth Avenue past Tandang Sora and Central Avenue, where the Iglesia Ni Cristo main temple is. Turn right to the AIT driveway entrance after the Philippine Social Science Center, just before the Microtel Hotel entrance, immediately after the footbridge.

Eastbound: Drive along Commonwealth Avenue. The nearest U-turn slot is around Zuzuarregui Road, just before Don Antonio. Once turned, drive past Central Avenue and the Philippine Social Science Center and make a right to the AIT driveway immediately after the footbridge.

Take note that the entrance of AIT should be along Commonwealth, just near the Microtel Hotel entrance gate

ACCOMMODATION

The University also offers short-term accommodations through the University Hotel, Hostel and Guest apartments. There are also student dormitories for students living outside of Metro Manila and international students as well.

There are also a lot of off-campus student accommodations near the UP Diliman Campus. However, AIT cannot recommend a specific property as they are privately operated. You will commonly find student dormitories, condo units or flats at any of the nearby places in UP Diliman. You can search rentals in Quezon City:

  • Visayas Avenue or Tandang Sora
  • UP Village, Teacher's Village
  • Katipunan Avenue

Depending on the exact location, some properties are within 10-15 minutes commute to AIT. There are also nearby shops, restaurants, clinics, and banks in these areas.

SCHOLARSHIPS AND OPPORTUNITIES

Students admitted in the University of the Philippines are covered by the Free Tuition Act. This allows the students to study for 10 semesters without the need to pay for tuition and other fees.

The AIT Association of Alumni (AITAA) also offers scholarships to deserving students. Application announcements are posted as soon as they are available. For further information, you can follow the Official Facebook Page of the UP AIT Alumni Association

The Office of Scholarships and Grants under the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs also offer financial assistance and support services. Visit their Website for further details.

AIT CORE (AIT-based Organizations)

AIT nurturess a safe space for student-led initiatives that are cause-oriented, community based, environmental, and recreational. The institute encourages holistic development of its soon to be tourism professionals. There are several college-based student organizations that the students can join to help them adjust academically and socially to UP College life.

UP AIT Student Council

The UP Asian Institute of Tourism Student Council is the official student governing arm of the Asian Institute of Tourism. With the desire to embody the ideals and aspirations that unite the AIT student body, the Council seeks to promote and protect students’ rights and welfare and foster a closer relationship among the AIT community.

UP AIT FST Council

The UP Asian Institute of Tourism Freshies, Shiftees, and Transferees Council (UP AIT FSTC) is the official student governing arm of the Asian Institute of Tourism FSTs. The AIT FSTC embodies ideals and aspirations to unite the whole AIT FST studentry, promote and protect students’ rights and welfare, and foster a closer relationship among the students and the different sectors of the tourism industry

START AIT: Student Action for Responsible Leadership in Tourism

START AIT is the leading formation on inclusive and accountable leadership in Asian Institute of Tourism, University of the Philippines Diliman (UP AIT). The principles of the organization are encapsulated in the word START: Service, Transparency, Accessibility, Responsiveness, and Thorough Consultation in pursuit of good governance towards social justice in the institute, university, and country.

UP Environment and Tourism Society

The UP Environment and Tourism Society (UP Ecotour) is among the student organizations in the University of the Philippines Asian Institute of Tourism that has a commitment in preserving our environment. It was founded in August 1996 by Percivil Carrera, and from then on, UP Club Ecotour had never ceased in dedicating itself to projects and activities that would help increase the awareness of its members, fellow students inside and outside the university, and countrymen.

UP STAG: Society for Tourism Advancement and Growth

The Society for Tourism Advancement and Growth, also known as STAG, was established exclusively for male tourism students of the Asian Institute of Tourism in the University of the Philippines Diliman. The organization is to be directed by its three guiding principles: SERVICE, EQUALITY, and EXCELLENCE.

UP Tourism Management Society

The University of the Philippines Tourism Management Society desires to be an organization that shall embody its ideals to promote tourism and trade, develop individuals who shall excel in the various sectors of the industry, foster camaraderie among tourism-oriented organizations, and create related activities that shall improve communities and the Society.

UP Travel Society

UP Travel Society is the first university-based travel organization in Asia. We share a resonating passion for travel, aimed towards inspiring action, to live and emphasize the lessons we learn from travel – camaraderie, environmental consciousness, giving back to the community and promoting student-welfare. Just as the UPTS motto goes, "There is no education like the lessons of travel.”

STAND UP AIT: Student Alliance for the Advancement of Democratic Rights in UP

STAND UP has been at the forefront of the struggle of the students in realizing the youth's and people's right to a people-oriented, scientific and nationalist education that shall serve the Filipino people and development of the nation. STAND UP affirms its commitment in advancing the democratic rights and interests of each and every Iskolar ng Bayan and the Filipino people.

R4E AIT: Rise for Education- AIT

R4E AIT is the local chapter of the Rise for Education Alliance in the Asian Institute of Tourism which calls for accessible quality education for all. Since the inception of Rise for Education Alliance - UP Diliman in 2014, as a part of the national Rise for Education Alliance, has been at the forefront of the fight of students for free, accessible, and quality education for all and democratic rights inside and outside the university.

The UP AIT Alumni Association is envisioned to be a dynamic and passionate organization that is internationally recognized as a valuable resource for the development of the tourism industry.

The AIT Alumni Association is composed of graduates of the Philippines’ first tourism management school, its mission is to bring together and support its members’ holistic development in partnership with the AIT, in the service of the tourism industry and the Nation. The AITAA has the following goals:

  1. To provide a venue for growth and development for its members
  2. To strengthen partnerships with AIT through mutually beneficial and relevant programs and activities
  3. To maximize links with various sectors of the tourism industry

FAQS

How to apply in the BS Tourism Program? To be eligible in the BS Tourism Program, you need to pass the UP College Admission (UPCA)/UP College Admission Test UPCAT). For students who are planning to shift or transfer to the BS Tourism program, you must have completed 30 units of coursework (if you are from other UPD units or other UP campus) or 33 units of coursework (if you are from other college and university)

Are there scholarship offerings for UPAIT students? The graduate program of UPAIT offers the MSTDM scholarship award, with one awardee annually. The UP AIT Alumni Association also offers an educational assistance in cash to deserving third and fourth year students.

UP AIT offers the Graduate Diploma in Tourism Development and Management (GDip TDM) which leads to the degree of Master of Science in Tourism Development and Management (MSTDM).

All tourism and non-tourism graduates, with at least 1-year work experience and who would like to obtain a diploma and/or an advance degree in the field of tourism management and development may apply.

Yes, applicants whose work experiences are non-tourism related are welcome to apply. However, all applications will be assessed based on results of entrance examination, interview, academic performance, essay, and recommendations.

At present, UP AIT does not accept shiftees for the Graduate Program. Courses/Subjects taken in other colleges or universities will not be credited for the completion of the GDipTDM and MSTDM.

The entrance exam uses different types of questions that aim to assess your current knowledge, comprehension, logic, and analytical skills. Advanced knowledge of tourism is not required.

The UPAIT Graduate Program is intended to meet the professional development needs of graduates to advance their careers in the tourism industry. Thus the UPAIT Graduate Program as much as practicable will offer weekday evenings (5:00 PM onwards) and Saturday classes (scheduled between 8 AM – 7 PM).

Graduate students are advised to take 9 units to get full load credit per semester or an equivalent of 2 – 3 classes per semester depending on the course credit units.

All students enrolled in the Graduate Program of UP AIT need to take a total of 21 units of required and elective Courses, which will allow the completion of a Graduate Diploma. Should the student want to advance to a Master’s Degree, the student needs to take 16 or 19 more units depending on the track they choose; Plan A is a thesis track with 19 units or Plan B, a non-thesis track with 16 units.

Full-time GDipTDM students, taking a normal load, may complete the degree in three semesters (approximately 1.5 years). The time limit for the completion of all diploma requirements shall be no more than two (2) years starting from the student’s first enrollment in the course and shall include all leaves of absence from the program.

If GDipTDM graduates choose to continue to MSTDM, you must complete an additional 19 units (Plan A, thesis track) or 16 units (Plan B, non-thesis track), which may be taken in two semesters and one mid-year term. The time limit for the completion of the Master’s requirements shall be three (3) years, starting from the student’s first enrollment in the course and shall include all leaves of absence from the program.

Yes. There will be time limit of 2 years from enrollment for the GDipTDM, and a time limit of 3 years for MSTDM, maximum years to finish is 5 years.

The cost per unit is Php 2,000 and the estimated cost of tuition fees for full load per semester is around Php 20,000 – 25,000.
