Research and Extension Capacity Development of Tourism and Hospitality Faculty Members of Southern Leyte State University (SLSU)
Seven months after the in-person benchmarking visit of Southern Leyte State University at UPAIT, the Research and Extension teams from UP Asian Institute of Tourism visited the SLSU Main Campus in Sogod, Southern Leyte in July 2023 to conduct a research and extension training program for the faculty members.
The UP AIT research team led by Dean Giovanni Legaspi, Dr. Reil Cruz, and Dr. Edieser Dela Santa, together with the project proponent, Ms. Maria Rose Manalo, and the UP AIT technical support staff, conducted the research component of the capacity-building workshop on July 11-12, 2023. The said team was warmly welcomed by SLSU’s administrators, faculty members, staff, and the University President, Dr. Jude A. Duarte.
Dr. Duarte, in his speech, expressed their appreciation towards the UP AIT team for travelling all the way to their beloved university to impart their expertise for their faculty members. He said that they were all excited for this partnership and that they were hoping for more collaborations in the near future.
The UPAIT extension team, led by Dr. Maria Criselda Badilla, Asst. Prof. Maria Carmela Ibañez, and Ms. Maria Rose Manalo, went to SLSU Main Campus in Sogod, Southern Leyte on July 18-19, 2023 to conduct the extension component of the capacity-building workshop. The team was warmly welcomed by SLSU’s administrators, faculty members, staff, and Vice President for Administration and Finance, Dr. Prose Ivy G. Yepes. The extension team, together with the faculty members of SLSU and the tourism officer of Hinunangan, Southern Leyte, also visited SLSU’s extension site at San Pedro Island, Hinunangan, Southern Leyte.
UPAIT pledges its support with other state universities and colleges by assisting them in enhancing the research and extension capacity related to tourism and hospitality.
