UP AIT x MHPNHS Collaboration
UP Asian Institute of Tourism, with the support of the City Government of Malolos, provided educational assistance to Marcelo H. Del Pilar National High School (MHPNHS) through the conduct of “Beyond the Tour: Mastering Filipino Service and Safety in Tour Guiding in the City of Malolos” on March 3-4, 2026.
This focused training aims to enhance the tour guiding knowledge and skills of 78 Senior High School Grade 11 students on the TechPro Tourism Services track under the subject teacher Ms. Maria Aurea A. Rueda, Teacher III. The training was facilitated by Mr. Stephen Pamorada of The Heritage Collective and Mr. Roly Marcelino of the City of Malolos – Tourism, Heritage and Arts and Culture Office. There is also valuable support and student mentoring for this training from National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) museum guides, Mr. Benjamin Mijares III, Master Teacher I, Ms. Gladys Glo M. Bondoc, Assistant. Principal II SHS, and Ma. Victoria C. Vivo EdD CESE, Principal IV.
This learning activity was the culminating activity in the academic year for the students to gain the required competencies and skills for tour guides. The students were able to apply these tour guiding skills through a mock tour of key historical and heritage sites across the City of Malolos.
“Beyond the Tour: Mastering Filipino Service and Safety in Tour Guiding in the City of Malolos” is a pilot project partnership between UP AIT and Marcelo H. Del Pilar National High School (MHPNHS) that aims to explore how UP can help in competency and skills development in senior high schools, and how MHDPHS can institutionalize more tourism skills enhancing programs in their curriculum. This program is envisioned to contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Targets 4.4, 8.6, 11.4, and 17.H.
As part of our mission and vision, UP AIT assists students interested in the tourism profession to drive human resource capital development in the Philippines. This is one of the component capacity building programs of Pagsibol: Cultural Tourism Development Planning for Doña Remedios Trinidad and Malolos, Bulacan Extension Project. Tourism human resource development is a key to sustainable cultural tourism development.
UP AIT was able to conduct this training through the UP Diliman Extension Grant, Cycle 2025, awarded to Ms. Sarah Briones of UP AIT.
