Professorial Lecture Series 2026
To launch the University of the Philippines Asian Institute of Tourism’s 50th Anniversary Week with the theme “Road to Gold: Pag-uugat, Pagsibol at Pagyabong”, the UP AIT hosted the Professorial Lecture Series 2026 on “Sustainable Tourism for Our Common Future,” on February 23, 2026 at the UP AIT Seminar Room.
Assistant Professor Monina M. Buccat, DPA delivered her lecture on “Rethinking Future Scenarios for Philippine Tourism: Towards Resilience and Sustainability in 2040 and Beyond.” Her study explored the future scenarios of Philippine tourism leading to and beyond 2040 from different stakeholders’ perspectives and transformational interventions needed to achieve tourism resiliency and sustainability anchored on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly but not limited to SDG 8: Decent Jobs and Economic Growth and SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.
Assistant Professor Miriam L. Oreta, MBA, delivered her lecture on “Community Aspirations for Sustainable Tourism Development: The Case of Oslob, Cebu, Philippines.” The study analyzes the community’s aspirations for sustainable tourism development, using the Triple Bottom Line framework, Adaptive Management, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals and UN Tourism Global Code of Ethics. The community aspirations were drawn from the situational analysis and inventory of existing and potential tourism products
The lecture was attended by faculty, staff, and students from UP AIT and UP, tourism industry professionals, and participants from outside the university.
