UP AIT – ATOP Collaboration Takes Off
The Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines (ATOP) and the University of the Philippines Asian Institute of Tourism kicked off Phase 1 of a 3-leg Capacity Development Program for the tourism officers of the Philippines to be held in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. This program was especially designed for those looking to be refreshed with the basics about the tourism industry, needed for the preparations of the required tourism development plans, as well as a venue to orient the newly installed tourism officers after the transitions in July 2025.
The project successfully took off with over 80 ATOP Members, from the Visayas Cluster and some from MIMAROPA and CAR in attendance at a 2-day workshop, with the theme “Future-Proofing Local Tourism Through Policy, Planning and Innovation.” This was held on August 14-15, 2025 at the Little Theatre, UP Visayas, Iloilo City. The UP AIT Team was warmly welcomed by ATOP led by Ms. Junel Ann P. Divinagracia, ATOP National President, with Mr. Jerry Anas, ATOP VP for Visayas, Dr. Jomelyn M. Abuan, ATOP National Treasurer and ATOP Visayas Regional Representatives, Dr. JJ Patubo and Mr. Nelson Alindogan. With the venue hosted by Chancellor Clement C. Camposano of UP Visayas and the project supported by DOT Region VI, the fruitful interaction between the speakers and participants continued seamlessly during these two days. It was truly enriching to have everyone involved in lively exchanges on the practice and real concerns of the officers tasked with the care of Philippine tourism’s destinations. This is evidence of the productive discussions and actions tourism stakeholders can consider when we work together.
Phase 2 will take place on August 28-29, 2025, with the ATOP Mindanao Cluster at General Santos City. Phase 3, the Luzon Cluster, will be held in UP AIT on Sept. 11-12, 2025.
Mabuhay ang turismo ng Pilipinas!
