Saving the Shores: Managing Environmental Impacts of Tourism Development in La Union
The UP AIT graduate students in the MSTDM Program organized a seminar-panel discussion on the impacts of tourism last November 11, 2024 in San Fernando La Union. The activity was developed in collaboration with the College of Management of Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University Mid La Union Campus (DMMMSU) and the La Union Provincial Tourism Office, Provincial Government of La Union (LUPTO-PGLU).
Themed “Saving the Shores: Managing Environmental Impacts of Tourism Development in La Union”, the seminar explored sustainable tourism strategies to address the environmental challenges arising from rapid tourism growth in La Union. With insights from the local community representing the different sectors of the tourism industry, discussions also highlighted reflections on the role of stakeholders in responsible tourism to achieve sustainable and resilient development in San Juan, La Union.
The UP AIT extends its gratitude to the Provincial Government – Environmental and Natural Resources Offices (PG-ENRO), San Juan Resort, Restaurant, and Hotels Association (SJRRHA), La Union Surf Club (LUSC), Coastal Underwater Resource Management Actions (CURMA), and faculty and students of DMMMSU for making this event a success.
