Tourism Research Methods Seminar
The Tour 199 class, under the class of Asst. Prof. Gina B. Alcoriza, PhD, had completed its set of Tourism Research Methods Seminar from October to November 2024.
Dr. Mohd Hafiz Mohd Hanafiah gave the first lecture on “Research Methodologies in Tourism and Hospitality for Early Career Researchers” last October 22, 2024. Professor Dr. Mohd Hafiz Hanafiah is a distinguished Professor of Tourism Economics at the Faculty of Hotel and Tourism Management, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia. He also serves as a Fellow at the Institute for Biodiversity and Sustainable Development (IBSD), UiTM. In addition to being a Certified Hotel Industry Analyst (CHIA), Professor Hafiz was recently recognized among the Top 2% of Scientists Worldwide in 2023 by Stanford University. In the lecture, Dr. Hanafiah discussed the ten hallmarks of research, current issues in tourism research, research methods and its advantages and challenges, emerging research methodologies, publication process, future outlooks and things to ponder.
Dr. Jeetesh Kumar gave a lecture on “Designing Research for Presentation and Publication” last November 7, 2024. Dr. Jeetesh Kumar is Head of Research at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Leisure Management, Senior Lecturer at the School of Hospitality, Tourism and Events, Associate Director for Information Management & Documentation at the Centre for Research and Innovation in Tourism (CRiT), and Hub Leader of the “Responsible Tourism for Inclusive Economic Growth” Sustainable Tourism Impact Lab at Taylor’s University, Malaysia. In the lecture, Dr. Kumar discussed the research writing process, choosing the research paper topic and appropriate research method, publication submission format, and applications to use for research writing.
Dr. Maria Criselda G. Badilla’s lecture on “Utilizing NVIVO in Tourism” was held on November 12, 2024. Dr. Badilla is currently an Associate Professor at the UP Asian Institute of Tourism where she handles courses on Tourism Marketing, Promotions, Product Development, Event Management, and Entrepreneurship. She is also a marketing consultant. She has authored several research articles and book chapters on tourism marketing and promotions. Dr. Badilla discussed how to use NVIVO in tourism research and for specific research topics.
