An initiative led by the UP AIT Student Council, "C3: Couture, Cuisine, Culture - Satisfy Your Native Senses" was held last Feb. 28, at the UP-NCPAG's Assembly Hall, in hopes to create awareness that tourism is primarily anchored to the culture of a destination embedded in their clothing, food and traditions.

The night started with an opening dance number from the UP Filipiniana featuring Philippine folk dances such as Pandanggo sa Ilaw and Tinikling. Opening remarks were given by UP AIT Professor and heritage advocate Mr. Ivan Henares, who pointed out that we still need to choose a cultural symbol to represent our country.

The highlight of the evening was a fashion show featuring a collection of indigenous clothing blended in highly modern fashion, designed and created by students from UP Association of Clothing Tech Students (UP ACTS). AS the models run the catwalk, The UP Kontemporaryong Gamelan Pilipino (Kontra-Gapi) sets the evening mood with their ethnic music playing in the background.

"Our inspiration comes from the indigenous communities… theories learned in class were applied in the designs" a representative from UP ACTS said.

Another intermission was performed by the Kontra-Gapi as Ms. Espher Ferrer, an AIT alumna and proud member of the said organization, danced to the beats of their instruments.

As the night comes to an end, Professor Pedro "Edru" Abraham, Jr., startled the audience with his ability to mimic the sound of birds, before giving his closing remarks. In pertaining to tourism and how we should market it, he said, "In the end, You're not selling the place, you're selling the people. You're selling culture."

The event also hopes to involve more non-AIT students in AIT events. "This event is the start of bigger and bolder events of AIT," declared by Ms. Myca Bonoan, the C3 program head.
