AIT Student Council (AIT-SC)

AIT Student Council

The UP Asian Institute of Tourism Student Council (AITSC) stands as the highest representative institution of students of the premier tourism school in the Philippines.

Its mission is to establish a student council that will exemplify the ideals and aspirations of the AIT student body through rendering effective service and leadership, upholding and protecting students’ rights and welfare, fostering a closer relationship among the students, alumni, administration, the tourism industry and other sectors of society, and promoting AIT as the premier tourism institute in the country.

This year, AITSC’s vision statement is Rediscover. React. Represent. AIT.

Rediscover. We in the Institute want to reinvent and break free from the usual notion that tourism is all fun and being carefree. We want to prove that tourism and leadership are no two opposite spectrums.

React. AITSC believes that we students aren’t just scholars but also student activists. It is not enough that we know the pressing issues and concerns on the Institute-level, University-level, and national-level – we need to proactively ensure the rights and welfare of the Filipino citizens are never being compromised.

Represent. We, as the iskolar ng bayan, are the expected to think, speak, and act with honor and excellence. We are expected to represent our generation with the values and knowledge that the University has imbued us with.

AIT. AITSC aims to create a more solid Asian Institute of Tourism, not only within the student body but with the staff, faculty, and the administration as well. We want to break the barrier between different year levels among the students and make them feel and realize that we are one.

Club for the Environment and Tourism (Ecotour)


Club Ecotour


The UP Club for the Environment and Tourism (UP Club Ecotour) is among the student organizations in the University of the Philippines Asian Institute of Tourism that has a commitment in preserving our environment. It was founded in August 1996 by Percivil Carrera, and from then on, UP Club Ecotour had never ceased in dedicating itself to projects and activities that would help increase the awareness of its members, fellow students inside and outside the university, and countrymen.


With 32 members at present, the organization yearly organizes Ecoskool, with the aim of teaching children during their early age on how to care for the environment; Domestikwhiz, a quiz-bee held to promote domestic tourism and to foster camaraderie among college students; and Ecotourista, an annual coastal clean-up drive. One of its major achievements is the organizing of a benefit concert, dubbed as Rockalikasan, held last November 2013 at Bonifacio Global City.


The organization is also proud to have won the prestigious recognition of being the Best Student Organization in the Asian Institute of Tourism consecutively from AY 2005-2006 to AY 2007-2008.




Tourism Management Society (TMS)

Tourism Management Society

The University of the Philippines Tourism Management Society (UP TMS) is a duly recognized academic organization in the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman which is based in the UP Asian Institute of Tourism. Since 1997, the organization has committed itself to promote academic excellence and civic mindedness focused on the importance of tourism to Philippine development.

The organization desires to embody its ideals by promoting tourism and trade, developing individuals who shall excel in the various sectors of the industry, fostering camaraderie among tourism-oriented organizations, and creating related activities that shall improve communities and the Society.

As part of the organization initiatives and membership development, Management Series Seminars (MSS) on marketing, communication, promotions, and other related topics have been annually conducted in partnership with different airline industries, travel and tour agencies, hotel and restaurant businesses, event specialists and many others.  Nationwide Quiz bees among various high school students, medical missions in some parts of Luzon, UPCAT reviews for the aspiring Iskolar ng Bayan, and Alternative Classroom Learning Experience (ACLE) on the tourism management sector have also been organized by UP TMS.

Consequently, UP TMS also provides leadership training among its members, supports and partners with local and international scholarship granting institutions, facilitates membership involvement and awareness in tourism related advocacies.





Travel Society (TS)


Travel Society



Started out in 1979 as Travel Club, the first university-based travel organization in Asia, the organization was renamed as the UP Travel Society as a result to its merger with Tourism Society.

Travel Club back then handles tour arrangements and educational trips for the Rizal Courses in the College of Social Science and Philosophy

Tourism Society initiated efforts to unite the AIT Community with AIT Olympics with different events like Volleyball, Basketball, Running Relay, Touch Ball, Quiz Bee, Swimming, Obstacle Course, Cheering Competition, Beer Drinking Championship, Ballroom Dancing

Competition, Fashion Shows, and Tour Guiding Contest.

Through the years, UPTS has organized and joined trips to different destinations in the country from the north like Batanes, Sagada, Baler, Ilocos and La Union to the southern part of the country like Dipolog and Dumaguete. It has organized tree-planting missions in the mountains of Laguna and Batangas, and as an annual activity, UPTS has been organizing Musmos Pasyalan or more commonly known as Musmosyalan, a special tour for street children and orphans. In the past the UP Travel Society had members from the colleges of Mass Communication, Social Science and Philosophy, Business Administration and School of Economics.

Aside from Musmosyalan, UPTS also has other landmark events like Boodle Feast and Bottoms UP.




Student Action in Responsive Leadership in Tourism (START-AIT)


Student Action for Responsive Leadership in Tourism (START-AIT) is a sociopolitical organization based on the Asian Institute of Tourism (AIT) and a proud member of KAISA-Nagkakaisang Iskolar para sa Pamantasan at Sambayanan (KAISA).

START-AIT is the leading formation on accountable, honest, and transparent leadership in AIT.

The principles of START-AIT are encapsulated in the word START: Service, Transparency, Accessibility, Responsiveness, and Thorough Consultation.

START-AIT in AIT Student Council (AITSC) has spearheaded many projects and programs that have gained widespread recognition in AIT, such as AIT shirt sale, AIT lanyard sale, Career Assistance Management Series (CAMS), AIT Month with Mr. and Ms. AIT, AIT Idol, culminating party DeTOUR and its Fun Run: Takbo Para sa Kinabukasan.

We do not only organize projects that benefit the AIT community but, as a socio-political organization, we are also aware of the national news and as such we have spearheaded “Ito ang START ng Pagbangon: The START-AIT Concert for a Cause” to aid for the Yolanda victims.

We have produced principled leaders not only in the AIT Student Council but also in the University Student Council that became Councilors and AIT Representatives.

We aim to launch relevant campaigns, services, and advocacies that are independent but complementary to the council’s.

And, as an organization based on AIT, START is also updated on the current trends in the Tourism Industry that are discussed on the monthly General Assemblies to balance our being Iskolar-Aktibista and our chosen career path.

START-AIT is now focusing and eager to promote its latest campaign on "Tourism Education."

As a sociopolitical organization our focus is not just about politics itself but training leaders and future leaders as well.





Society f or Tourism Advancement and Growth (STAG)




That is the motto of the Society for Tourism Advancement and Growth, also known as STAG. It was founded on August 11, 1985 by Caesar Yuipco, Bernie Gapuz, and Frankie Lardizabal. The organization was established exclusively for male tourism students of the AIT. UP STAG is a non-sectarian and non-political organization. AIT is the organization’s official place of residence.

The organization is to be directed by its three guiding principles; Service, Equality and Excellence. We serve, one of the organization’s objectives is to help maintain and promote the AIT facilities to the UP Community. We practice equality, to instill social consciousness among our members, also included in the objectives is to promote the spirit of camaraderie and goodwill among the members. We excel, we bring out the best in each other, enhance the leadership potential of the members thus uplifting the image of the male population of AIT.

We care. We share. We represent. We are the UP STAG.
