Tourism Foundation Incorporated

In 1997, the Tourism Foundation Inc. (TFI) was established to assist the University of the Philippines Asian Institute  of Tourism in carrying out more effectively its objectives, programs, and functions.  TFI was formally established as a private, non-profit, non-stock corporation by virtue of its Articles of Incorporation signed on November 9, 1977 and upon registration with the Philippine Securities and Exchange Commission on December 17, 1977.

TFI was created in recognition of the pivotal role of the private sector in the development ofAIT Grounds tourism.  The TFI was organized to lay the ground work for private sector participation in the fulfillment of UP Asian Institute of Tourism's objectives.

The Institute performs the three basic functions of teaching, research, and extension, fulfilling the following objectives:

  • To develop entrepreneurs, managers, and qualified staff for the tourism industry;
  • To assist in the development, growth, and professionalization of tourism;
  • To provide a realistic instructional and research laboratory for tourism operations and management; and
  • To provide a place for the conduct of professional and technical programs for the tourism industry.


TFI:  Our Initiatives

Tourism Foundation Incorporated assists the Institute in the conduct of research, training, and consultancy services as part of its commitment.  The role of TFI has not changed through the years.  TFI represented the Institute in the following activities:

  • Designed short-term training courses that equipped new entrants in the tourism industry with skills, knowledge, and orientation needed for managerial and supervisory positions;
  • Studied the skills requirements in the industry with the end in view of identifying specific actions that could be implemented to promote vertical movements in tourism establishments;
  • Assisted in the conceptualization and conduct of training programs of other tourism organizations;
  • Provided the necessary physical facilities that enabled students and trainees to practice learning in the classrooms;
  • Designed Trainers' Training Programs for prospective trainers in the industry in key cities and regional centers in the Philippines;
  • Designed training programs that made full use of the resources of the Institute;
  • Funded research activities that served inputs in training activities; and
  • Designed entrepreneurship skills development programs for people in the tourism industry.
